In the old quarter of Larache, in northern Morocco, Shlomo passes away, leaving behind troubling signs that shake the certainty of his religious identity. Very quickly, those around him face an almost Kafkaesque dilemma: should he be buried in the Jewish cemetery or the Muslim cemetery?
Returning from Canada amidst the turmoil, his son David has only one goal in mind: to give his father a proper burial, no matter the cost. Imad, his childhood friend, carries an invisible burden: he believes he is responsible for Shlomo's death due to his own negligence. Since then, the ghost of the deceased haunts him, calling on him to finally take responsibility, at least once, to make amends for his mistake.
Through these two men, whose lives have drifted apart but are still bound by loyalty, Enterrement en Sursis explores the hidden thread that connects people across time. The film arises from a desire for reconciliation: between the living and those they miss, and between a country and its memory.
It is a dramedy imbued with a tender view of Morocco: its narrow streets, inhabited faces, mingling languages, and a world that is noisy, warm, and full of light.
